The 2026 golf season at Banbridge Golf Club got off to a fine start with the Captains’ Drive-In, as Men’s Captain Jim Matthews and Lady Captain Jane Doyle officially opened proceedings. Accompanied by their respective vice-captains, the event welcomed a strong turnout of members eager to begin the new campaign.
Conditions on the day were ideal, with fine weather providing a perfect backdrop for the traditional curtain-raiser. The course itself was also praised, showing encouraging signs as it continues to take shape ahead of the busy months of competition to come.
Members took full advantage of the favourable conditions, producing competitive scoring throughout the field. The atmosphere around the club reflected a sense of optimism and enthusiasm for the season ahead.
Taking top honours on countback were Gordon Haire and Collette Brown, who posted an impressive 25 points to secure victory. Their performance set the standard on a day where scoring was tight at the top of the leaderboard.
Finishing in second place, also on 25 points, were Martin McAleenan and Liz Armstrong, narrowly missing out on the win after countback. Their strong round ensured a closely contested finish.
In third place were Anita O’Dowd and Ronnie Halliday with a solid 23 points, rounding off a successful and enjoyable opening event for all involved at Banbridge Golf Club.
